This contemporary model is truly unique. The 17 inch high base and semi-meridian are delightfully different. The 14" diameter illuminated globe features the unique National Geographic dual map - political with the light off and physical with the light on. The Naturalist offers nearly 5000 place names including continents, countries, cities, bodies of water, bathymetric ocean data, hand drawn physical relief, and a remarkably colorful display in 17 layers of color printing. The semi-meridian consists of 16 layers of natural beech wood, hand laminated together and bent to curve around the globe. The base (also of natural beech wood) and the semi-meridian are hand-polished with natural beeswax. The result is a base from the earth showcasing a globe of the earth - in pristine and elegant fashion.
